We left San Diego in the spring of 1973. With us were Craig, 10; Philip, 20; Connie, 20; and Chris, 19. We would soon lose Connie to a boyfriend on another boat. Philip stayed with us as far as Tahiti, Chris as far as New Zealand. Craig stayed with us till Hawaii in 1979, when he flew home to enter college. Nancy and I arrived back in San Diego at the end of 1979. Daughters Lee (then 22) and Sarah (16) would join us later for a few months.
Money was a problem from day one. As soon as Nancy agreed to the voyage, the topic came up.
